Connecting Laptop To Tv

Anyone got any idea how I would go about connecting my laptop to a LCD HD Ready TV to use it (instead of the inbuilt screen) as a monitor?

If I could figure out how to do it, it would be handy for viewing stuff online, like movie trailers, music videos, downloaded tv shows, etc etc

I have no clue what kind of cable I need, what kind of socket that the tv has to have to be compatible, does it carry sound or would I have to set up sound differently, how do I set the computer up so that it shows on the screen rather than the inbuilt screen, that kind of thing.

If anyone knows or has any ideas, let me know, because looking it up online I feel like I'm trying to learn Swahili.

Re: Connecting Laptop To Tv

If you go into PC World and tell them what you want, they'll find you the cable you want, but the idea is the cable plugs into the monitor socket of your laptop (or the little pinned TV socket) and they into the SCART or the red yellow and white ports on your TV.

Then you have a display icon on your menu bar in the right corner, and you right click on it, select TV output and it'll change the output for you.

I did it at uni when I didn't have a DVD player built into my TV.
